Kevin walks the property with the owner. Site visits and estimates are free, no obligation. 2. The work is planned and quoted. 3. AKW does the work. On tile jobs the owner gets the as-built tile map. ## Timing Field tile goes in after harvest, roughly October until the ground freezes, plus early spring. The fall schedule fills up in August. ## Frequently asked questions - **What is GPS tile mapping?** While the tile goes in, the GPS records exactly where each main and lateral runs and how deep it sits. You get that as-built map when the job is done, so you know where your tile is before you dig, repair, add on, or sell the ground. - **Why install tile with GPS grade control?** Tile has to fall the whole way to the outlet. GPS machine control holds the planned grade foot by foot through the pull, which keeps low spots and backfall out of the line so the water keeps moving. - **When should I get on the schedule for fall tile?** Field tile goes in after harvest, roughly October until the ground freezes, plus early spring. The fall schedule fills up in August, so the earlier you call, the better your spot. - **Do you tile a single wet spot or only whole fields?** Both. A targeted run for one wet spot is a common job, and so is pattern tiling a whole field. Kevin will walk it with you and tell you what makes sense for that ground. - **Can you clean out a pond without draining it?** Often, yes. A long-reach excavator can pull silt and cattails from the bank while the water stays in. Whether that works for your pond depends on its size and depth, which Kevin will tell you after he walks it. - **What happens to the silt and muck you dig out?** It gets hauled off or spread and graded on your property, whichever you prefer. That gets settled before the work starts. - **Do you build new ponds?** Yes. AKW digs new ponds and shapes the banks and the soil around them. - **Can you fix a bank that keeps washing out?** Yes. Banks get cut back to a stable slope, and rock can be set along the waterline where the waves hit. - **Do you dig basements for new houses?** Yes. AKW digs basements and footings, squares the corners and marks the footings for the concrete crew. - **Do you work for builders or homeowners?** Both. Builders and contractors use AKW for site prep, and homeowners call for basements, driveways, grading and clearing. - **What is forestry mulching?** A mulcher head on the excavator grinds brush and small trees into mulch right where they stand. The ground gets cleared without a burn pile or a pile of logs to haul. - **Can you set a culvert under my driveway?** Yes. Driveways and culverts are part of the site prep work AKW does. - **Is the site visit free?** Yes. Site visits and estimates are free with no obligation. - **What area does AKW Excavating cover?** Peoria, Knox, Fulton, Stark and Woodford counties in central Illinois, based in Brimfield.
